Material-friendly Part Flow
Pivatic uses sheet metal bending technology where the bending process is carried out using folding technology which is most suitable for sensitive materials. The material moves between stations without being scratched or dented.
The bending process is efficient because the wing folding machines bend negative and positive angles set for each edge of the work piece, and the sides and the ends are bent at the same time. Also, there is no wear on tooling. The bending tools and the hold down tools are all engineered in-house according to the geometry of your parts, to minimize or eliminate the need for tool changes.
The first PivaBend wing forming machine was launched to market in 1989. It has been further developed without changing the working principles, which now pays off with high machine uptime. A Siemens line controller and standard components secure the reliability.
Material Specifications
PivaBend folding machines are designed for steel thickness up to 2 mm (0.078”), and applied for blank size up to 3 000 x 1 500 mm (120 x 59”). Pivatic also provides MPB benders which are capable of bending up to 4 mm (0.157”) material thickness and blank lengths up to 8 000 mm (314”). PivaBend is suitable for materials with sensitive surfaces such as pre-painted stainless steel and aluminum.
Long-side Benders FLN / FLW
The long-side sheet metal benders FLN (Folding Long Narrow) and FLW (Folding Long Wide) are designed to bend either only upwards or upwards and downwards. They are always controlled with the CNC. Benders are servo electric for thin material and hydraulic for heavy-duty applications. They are selected according to the type of material, material thickness, and main dimensions of the work pieces.
PivaBend FLN consists of two stationary bending machines. It has CNC feeders for transporting and positioning of the work piece. This layout allows two blanks to be bent at the same time. To ensure correct positioning, blanks are positioned against corner notches prior to the bending cycle. PivaBend FLW consists of a separate positioning device, two traversing bending machines and CNC feeders for transportation of blanks. Both sides are bent simultaneously for reduced cycle time. Blanks are referenced prior to bending leading the tolerances to the first bend.

Short-side Benders FSW / FST
PivaBend FSW (Folding Short Wide) sheet metal benders are the standard for short side bending in Pivatic. The FSW consists of two traversing bending machines with part positioning. Both sides are bent simultaneously for reduced cycle time, and they can be bent upwards or downwards. The transportation from long side benders to the short side benders can be in straight line or in a 90˚ angle, depending on the preferred layout for the factory area. In a straight line, a turning table is added for turning the part in the right orientation. Benders are servo electric for lighter gauge and hydraulic for heavy-duty applications. They are selected according to the type of material, material thickness, and main dimensions of the work pieces.
The PivaBend FSW can be equipped with an automatic hold down tool organizer for different part widths. The change from one part width to another is done automatically by the line controller system.
PivaBend FST (Folding Short Through) benders are run-through end benders for longer parts, up to 8000 mm / 314”. The FST station consists of a positioning device, feeding gripper, FST bender, and the pulling gripper. The FST can only bend upwards.

Box Benders FSO / FSO-C
Instead of welding 3 parts together to form a U-profile, PivaBend FSO (Folding Short Open) sheet metal box benders can be used to form Casings from 1 part. The original PivaBend FSO is an open-frame machine with a height limitation of 2000 mm / 78” of the sections. A variant of this, the C-framed PivaBend FSO-C, is available and feasible to use when there are only upward bends, the cycle time allows it, or when the factory floor space is limited. The ends can also be bent in the FSO-C instead of including an FSW short side benders. The FSO-C has a section height limitation of 725 mm / 28”.

The PivaBend FSO and FSO-C can be equipped with a similar-type automatic hold down tool organizer for different part widths than what is used in PivaBend FSW. The change from one part width to another is done automatically by the line controller system.
