Punching Technologies

Material Specifications

PivaPunch is a flexible CNC punching centre that uses standard Thick Turret Tooling. The raw materials we punch can be up to 6 mm thick steel strip of pre-painted, plastic-covered, galvanized, or cold-rolled mild steel, aluminum, and stainless steel.

Due to the sensitive materials used in Pivatic lines, the whole process has been made material-friendly. There is no need for the operator to handle the material thanks to automated process, and the technology used in the lines are optimized for material friendly production. This ensures high quality end-products.

Turret Punch

The PivaPunch Punching Station is equipped with Amada-style Thick Turret tools that are set up in tool cassettes, configured for a product family, a large known batch, or flexible production, depending on the needs. The punching station is available in hydraulic for heavy duty (up to 40tn punching power) or servo-electric for lighter material. There can be several pre-set tool cassettes with different configurations, of which two identical cassettes are used at a time in a double punch process – one on each side of the material. This allows punching two holes at the same for double the efficiency. The change of tool cassettes from one product family to another is effortless with cassette trolleys and can be done in less than 5 minutes for minimal downtime in the production.

The tools used can be standard stationary or rotatable indexing tooling of size A to F or special shape tooling that would be used to punch a cluster of holes or do embossing. Standard tooling increases flexibility and dedicated shape tooling increases efficiency. If there is a need for more tooling capacity, the large tool stations can be equipped with Multitool Adapters to achieve over 100 tools in a single two-sided punching centre.

The tool cassettes are moved across the material and their patented tool selectors position accurately above the tools. Both tool selectors are hit with a single servo-driven CNC ram with an accuracy of 0.1 mm to punch precise holes with less burr on the edges. The tool clearances are small and the tool durability becomes 5x or 10x better than traditional machines. The standard tool sharpening interval for PivaPunch is 500.000 – 1.000.000 hits at best.

Press Tool

Dedicated press tooling can be used in combination with Thick Turret tooling to increase capacity in punching hole patters, perforation, and embossing. The press tools are also stored on trolleys and the change from one tool to another can be done in under one minute. There can be several different press tools set and ready on their own trolleys, for example different perforation patterns, large openings, or several embossing’s.
